Scope of the Thematic Issue:

Image processing is an important discipline that has a wide range of applications in various fields such as Medicine, Automation, Agriculture, Oceanography, and Remote Sensing. Based on the computational techniques of Image Processing, one can obtain an image with better quality or can extract useful information for further analysis. Today, with many advances in science, engineering, and technology, a variety of state-of-the-art techniques are used for image processing such as variational and PDEs methods, fuzzy decision, heuristic techniques, and machine learning, mainly deep learning. As a result, diagnostic medical imaging systems as well as other automation systems can make decisions more and more accurately.

This special issue is aimed at covering advanced image processing techniques applied for image restoration, enhancement, super-resolution, compression, segmentation, registration, fusion, reconstruction, classification, and other image analysis tasks such as image-based diagnosis and follow-up. Other image processing techniques not directly designed for medical imaging, but that can be applied to medical imaging are also welcome.
